Papers

The following are a sample of academic papers I have written over the years. They are by no
means a complete inventory, but merely abbreviated versions of the full papers. An understanding of economic principles is helpful, but not required to appreciate these works.

The Role of Investment Banks in the Boom and Bust of the Late 1990's (2004)
Much attention has been given to fraudulent accounting and auditing activities which "burst the bubble" around the turn of the century. The paper focuses on the less publicized, but equally deleterious impact of investment banks' behavior during the economic explosion in the US from 1996 to 2001.

Intellectual Property Rights: An Economic Analysis of Weak Versus Strong Copyright Enforcement for Digital Assets (2005)
As the root of the US economy has progressed from agricultural activity, then to industrial and manufacturing, and now finally to all manner of services, so have the core assets of firms. Whereas technical improvements and trade secrets were once the most valued and protected factors of production, information and processes lay at the heart of corporate profits. But, in this digital age, is the strong protection of intellectual property most efficient for firms and society? In this paper, I discuss the implications of strict versus loose enforcement of copyright law on digital assets.
